Introduction of overseas research bases
Kobe University Indonesia base
Infectious disease control research and human resource development utilizing the Indonesian base

The Kobe University Indonesia Center is located within the Institute of Tropical Diseases, Airlangga University in Surabaya, Indonesia. Kobe University has built a deep relationship of trust with Indonesia (Airlangga University, Gadjah Mada University, University of Indonesia, etc.) through many years of collaborative research and human resource development, and as a result, has achieved many results.
Based in Indonesia, we are working on multiple infectious disease research projects.
1. Research into the discovery of new pathogens (zoonotic pathogens) in monkeys living in Indonesia
2. Epidemiological survey of viral diarrhea
3. Trend survey of drug-resistant bacteria
4. Elucidation of the pathogenesis of dengue hemorrhagic fever
Major papers and achievements

A word from the research director
The Kobe University International Joint Research Center for Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases (Kobe University Indonesia Base) was established at the Institute of Tropical Diseases, Airlangga University in Indonesia, and has been conducting research on H5N1 avian influenza, viral hepatitis, dengue fever, dengue hemorrhagic fever, and enteric bacterial infections. In this project, we are working on research into new infectious diseases, viral diarrhea, drug-resistant bacterial infections, dengue fever, etc. We are also promoting the development of highly skilled human resources who can play an active role globally. At the Indonesia Base, many researchers who have obtained degrees from Kobe University are participating in joint research, and research is being carried out under a strong relationship of trust.
The group leaders, Professor Ikuo Katsuji (Graduate School of Medicine), Professor Masanori Kameoka (Graduate School of Health Sciences), and Professor Toshiro Shirakawa (Graduate School of Science, Technology and Innovation), are conducting joint research with Indonesia. Through collaboration with Indonesia, we hope to disseminate research results to the world and contribute to the further development of infectious disease research.
